Ergonomics in the Field: The Science Behind the Berthoud Confort Harness
When it comes to professional backpack sprayers, comfort isn’t a luxury—it’s a safety imperative. Berthoud’s innovative Confort harness has set a benchmark in ergonomic design, becoming the first and only fully integrated padded harness and hip belt system used in professional spraying equipment.
Now available on two Berthoud Vermorel knapsack models; 2000 Pro Confort and electric Vermorel 3000, the harness has also been utilised by their sister company, Cooper Pegler, on the CP15 and CP3 Evolution sprayers. The Confort harness borrows from advanced trekking backpack science, a field known for engineering around long-duration load carrying. The result is a system that redistributes 70% of the sprayer’s weight to the hips, significantly reducing strain on the shoulders and spine.
Unlike traditional harnesses, which place the full burden on the upper body, the Confort harness was tested over a full year in a clinical environment. The findings were clear—this harness not only reduces user fatigue by but also decreases longer-term effects of injury to the spine and pelvis.
For professionals who spend hours spraying in the field, less fatigue doesn’t just mean greater comfort—it means sharper focus, better posture, and ultimately, safer, more accurate chemical application. It also reduces the long-term physical cost of the job, enhancing overall productivity and reducing days lost to strain-related injuries – making the activity a pleasure – not a chore!
With the Confort harness, Berthoud has proven that ergonomics and safety are not extras—they’re essential components of professional spraying.
