DuraPost® by Birkdale was recently featured on ITV’s Love Your Garden, as part of a much-needed garden renovation in Middlesbrough. The programme’s design team specified the innovative DuraPost® steel fence post system in Anthracite Grey due to its complementary aesthetics and impressive space efficiency.
The project objective was to drastically transform the garden belonging to Pip, her husband and two-year-old son Harrison. As a result of suffering from Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a rare genetic condition, Pip is confined to a wheelchair meaning that prior to the renovation, she was unable to play with her son in the garden. The plan for the episode was to create a new garden for the family that would be more accessible whilst also maximising the available space and providing an environment that would encourage Harrison to explore and play.
Consequently, when it came to specifying a fencing system, space efficiency and aesthetic flexibility were important characteristics. DuraPost® stood out as the most appropriate solution.

To complement the tranquil and imaginative atmosphere of the garden, DuraPost® was specified in Anthracite Grey, alongside traditional timber fence panels that were painted to match.
When it came to installation, the Love Your Garden team contacted trained DuraPost® installer David Massey of Massey Garden Design. He replaced the original 35m of dilapidated timber fencing, with the selected DuraPosts as well as colour-matched gravel boards, capping rails, post caps and cover strips. Largely due to the light weight of the system, the process was quick and straightforward.
Pip was delighted with her new garden: “It’s completely taken my breath away,” she commented. “The finish is just amazing.”
